Who is eligible for the HomeBuilder plan?

• People earning less than $125,000 per year
• Couples who earn less than $200,000 per year

Furthermore, the grants can be used for new homes that are valued at $750,000 (including land) or renovations that are valued at anywhere between $150,000 and $750,000, resulting in properties being worth $1.5 million or less.

Some important considerations regarding the scheme

The following presents a few important points to be kept in mind regarding the package:

• The grants amount be used to build necessary construction and building assignments within the house and not on things that are not necessarily essential such as swimming pool, spas, gazebos, tennis courts, garage, playhouse or nursery
• The scheme does not include investment properties
• Work has to be solely done and supervised by a licensed builder. As such, the scheme does not involve owner-builders or DIY renovators
• Renovation assignments should include substantial tasks that involve a large scale magnitude of involvement in terms of tradie jobs. In other words, one can utilise the grants to involve tradies in ‘major’ tasks such as the complete renovation of a certain part of the house: a bathroom, kitchen or hall renovation. But relatively ‘minor’ tasks such as a simple painting or room upgrade task will not count. It’s all about substantial renovation
• A prime objective of this plan is to provide jobs for tradies involved in the construction sector such as plumbers, carpenters, electricians etc.

When will the scheme be available?

The stimulus package will be made available to people who meet the eligibility criteria and sign a contract to build or substantially renovate their house after June 4.
