Let’s get down to the working…
Basically, you need to know that it works to bring Search results by utilizing Google lens. The new features use a combination of the camera, computer vision, and augmented reality to overlay information and content onto one’s physical surroundings. Using a smartphone, people can search for a 3D model and place it in their physical space with their phone’s viewfinder.
How does it enhance my Google Search experience?
At its latest developer conference, Google recently announced that it is bringing the camera — and augmented reality— to Google Search. So now you can check out a pair of shoes in the “real world” while you’re shopping online or put an animated shark in your living room. As the company demonstrated, you could search for something like “great white shark” and then see it in front of you through your phone’s camera. If you search for musculature, for instance, you can get a model of human muscles — which you can either examine as an ordinary 3D object on your screen or overlay on a camera feed, letting you “see” the object in the real world. If you’re looking at shopping results, you can preview a piece of clothing with your existing wardrobe.
“We are moving from a company that helps you find answers to a company that gets things done,” Google CEO Sundar Pichai said. “Our goal is to build a more helpful Google for everyone.”That starts with Search, Pichai said, and this is a new example for this. It’s pretty cool, given that you can easily go from a search term to an AR experience in the Google app.
Some Other Uses of Augmented Reality
You might be wondering if there are also some business-oriented and practical uses for this technology… in fact, there are many. For example, some retailers use augmented reality in their apps to let shoppers see how furniture would look in their home. The primary value of augmented reality is that it brings components of the digital world into a person’s perception of the real world. It enables reduced work times, improves accuracy and reduces risks. It can also find usage in knowledge sharing and improved performance analytics be it for humans or even machines.
There are other Google partners working directly with the search engine giant to have their 3D models found in the search results. Some of them are NASA, New Balance, Samsung, Target, Visible Body, Volvo and more.
With the Google Lens in place, which is accessible from Google’s mobile app search bar, the entire search process is getting an upgrade for users. Now the search can offer more visual answers to visual questions with features like restaurant menu search, automatic translations, text-to-speech and more.
